Reptiles & Amphibians of Belize

Belize has a wonderful variety of lizards, snakes and amphibians. From the prehistoric looking, very large Green iguana, to the world’s fastest lizard, the Black Spiny tailed iguana, to the Jesus lizard that walks on water.

Luckily, only a few snakes to be extra cautious of, like the Bothrops asper & the Coral snake. Simple word of advice, if you see a snake…walk the other way! They are far more scared of you and will usually scurry off the second they see you. Most are very useful to have around, ridding you of far less desirable critters.
